HONOLULU, Updated 4:56 p.m. HST December 20, 2000 -- Closing arguments were held Wednesday in the trial of three men who are charged with murdering a U.S. Army pilot.
Bryson Jose, Keala Leong and Roberto Miguel are accused of trying to break into the cabin where John Latchum and his family were staying at the Army's Waianae Recreation Center. When Latchum went outside, prosecutors said Miguel shot him.
In their closing arguments, prosecutors said the shooting was merely "entertainment" for the three defendants.
Defense attorneys claimed that the defendants never intended to shoot Latchum. They also said that jurors never heard the truth because key prosecution witnesses lied on the stand.
All three defendants chose not to testify on their own behalf during the trial. They face life in prison if convicted.
The jury is set to continue its deliberations on Thursday.
KITV4 News reporter Mary Zanakis will have details of the closing arguments on KITV4 News at 6.
